The studio behind the long-running Yakuza series, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, just announced that its upcoming game, Like A Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name will come with a hidden surprise. Like the old days, the upcoming game will come with a demo for Yakuza 9, also known as Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, that only The Man Who Erased His Name owners will be able to play.

For the uninitiated, the Yakuza series has undergone a name change, and the upcoming game is called Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth instead of Yakuza 9. At the showcase during which the exciting demo was announced, the company also showed a small snippet of Infinite Wealth.

In the snippet of the next entry in the franchise, Kiryu runs into Ichiban, and while removing his handcuffs, says “How far has our hero fallen.” While the teaser generated great reactions, it didn’t reveal too much of what fans can expect from Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth.

Masayoshi Yokoyama, the game’s director, talked about the Infinite Wealth demo and confirmed that players will only be able to give the demo a shot after they are done playing through the Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name story mode. That’s not all – the “demo” will not be part of the full release of Infinite Wealth. Instead, it will be an exclusive part of the game only playable by people who finish The Man Who Erased His Name. Quite the unique marketing technique for Infinite Wealth.

Sega fans have been discussing the game’s setting since the initial reveal. And it looks like the marketing material used during the showcase also points in the same direction. While it has not been confirmed, it seems that Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth will take place in Hawaii, of all places. The promotional pictures show Ichiban wearing clothes that look a lot like they are from the state, and it will make for a great change of pace from the narrow and crowded streets of Tokyo.
