Lily Allen began her musical career in 2005 by publishing her vocal recordings to Myspace. She managed to get airplay on BBC Radio 1 and seemingly became an overnight sensation after that.
She has released four studio albums and 23 singles, in almost two decades and announced in 2019 that she was working on a “concept album.” This was around the same time she began dating actor David Harbour.
Allen Shares Two Daughters With Her Ex-Husband
Allen and Harbour obtained a marriage license the day after their appearance at 26th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. They officially wed on Sept. 7, 2020. Before marrying Harbour, Allen dated a builder named Sam Cooper, who happened to be her ex-husband. She and Cooper share custody of their two daughters.
But as much as Allen gushes about motherhood and believes her children “complete” her, she also feels that having children “ruined” her music career.
Having Children “Ruined” Allen’s Music Career
Lily Allen was asked on the Radio Times podcast whether she had to rethink her career strategy after having children. She said: “I never really have a strategy when it comes to career, but yes, my children ruined my career.”
“I mean I love them and they complete me, but in terms of pop stardom, totally ruined it,” Allen joked during the interview, which released on Tuesday.
“It really annoys me when people say you can have it all because, quite frankly, you can’t,” Allen added. “Some people choose their career over their children and that’s their prerogative.”

“I feel like that really left some nasty scars that I’m not willing to repeat [on my children],” Allen said. “I chose stepping back and concentrating on them, and I’m glad that I have done that because I think they’re pretty well-rounded people.”
Lily Allen currently resides in New York City with her husband and daughters, Ethel Mary and Marnie Rose.
