Marvel has revealed a Loki variant cover for its upcoming Marvel’s Voices: Pride one-shot. The cover, drawn by Amy Reeder, shows off Thor’s trickster brother alongside his different forms and variants seen throughout the Marvel Universe. The upcoming giant-sized one-shot celebrates Marvel’s iconic LGBTQ heroes through stories crafted by some top LGBTQ writers and artists. Of course, Loki is a perfect choice to cover such an issue.
What Does This Loki Variant Cover Mean?
This variant cover is full of pride as Reeder depicts Loki atop the Rainbow Bridge. Joining the trickster are some of the various forms he has taken throughout the Marvel Universe. They include Alligator Loki, Classic Loki, Kid Loki, and Female Loki. Also, the background of the variant cover transforms the Rainbow Bridge into the many colors that represent different LGBTQ flags.
Of course, many of these Loki variants starred in the Loki Disney Plus series. Funnily enough, the Loki Disney series introduced the trickster as bisexual. This makes him the first openly queer MCU lead. Perhaps this is Marvel’s way of setting up more queer stories for the Norse God.
What Else Is The God of Tricks Up To?
Beyond the Loki variant cover, comic book Loki is dealing with quite a bit. Donny Cates and Nic Klein’s Thor series recently forced Loki to deal with Odin’s death and the subsequent changes to Asgard. Meanwhile, Loki is set to appear in Al Ewing and Javier Rodriguez’s Defenders: Beyond series. Launching this June, the five-issue series sees the return of the Loki from Ewing’s Loki: Agent of Asgard series.
The Defenders: Beyond series sees Loki assemble a new team of Defenders. This new team sets off on a mission that will take them to the very end of space and time. Here, they will confront questions about the very fabric of the universe. Naturally, they also have to deal with a threat that no one is prepared for. Plus, to get ready for this new series, the upcoming Thor #24 will feature a short prelude for the story.
You can pick up Amy Reeder’s fun Loki variant cover for Marvel’s Voices: Pride on June 22nd.
