There’s a Georgia Karen running for Congress and—surprise, surprise—she doesn’t want poor people to have things. Tori Branum, a former Marine who is running for Congress in Georgia, is all for securing our borders against illegal immigration. So, it’s safe to say her and ICE are probably besties. She also stands by farmers but her latest TikTok video shows that she doesn’t seem to care about people being fed. She says so herself as she discusses people “crying” over losing their SNAP benefits.
On TikTok, Tori Branum posted: “Instead of getting on tiktok crying about losing snapped benefits, why don’t you go get a job?” and then immediately rips into people with much less than her, while maintaining crazy eye contact. Why? Because she thinks they should have the energy to “do DoorDash” if they have the energy to complain on TikTok. The most horrendous thing I’ve ever heard from a privileged White woman then comes out of Tori’s mouth: “Hunger is a great motivator to get somebody to get out and do some stuff.”
She then tries to backpedal and say that the “vulnerable,” elderly, and disabled people still deserve to have benefits. But the people who “cry” on TikTok look pretty “able-bodied” to her. Some other things that Tori suggests people can do to make money during the shutdown is to put out babysitting ads or walk dogs. She says, “If you get hungry enough, you’re gonna find a way.”
So, should everyone just babysit each other’s dogs and kids for money? What kind of existence is getting a full-time job and a side gig to pay for bills? Shouldn’t a full-time job pay a living wage? What Tori is suggesting is kids go hungry because mom and dad are somehow responsible for their low-paying jobs.
“No hate like Christian love,” one commenter said, taking a shot at Tori’s “generosity.”
“Why don’t you people understand that it’s late stage capitalism? Wages don’t match the rising cost of food, housing, and healthcare. Single parents struggling to work and pay for childcare. Some people find it extremely difficult to get ahead. This idea that people are lazy is simply not the reality for most. It’s so sad that empathy is declining in this country,” another argued.
One person replied, “I literally made 15K last year!!! Working full time as a school para. You know, the people who assist the severely disabled children.” Meanwhile, people like Tori think everybody is trying to milk the system.
