Recently, Paramount Network made the weighty decision to cancel Yellowstone after the show’s fifth season. To add insult to injury, season 5 is being split in two: part one is meant to air later this month, but part two has been delayed – possibly due to some friction among the cast. However, series star Luke Grimes, who appears as Kayce Dutton, assures fans that the remaining episodes of the show’s final season are going to be worth the wait and chock full of “juicy drama”.
Luke Grimes has been a part of the main cast of Yellowstone since the show’s first season back in 2018. He appears as Kayce Dutton, a retired Navy SEAL and the youngest son of family patriarch John Dutton III (Kevin Costner). From the very beginning of the show, much of Kayce’s character development has centered around the differences between the Dutton family and the family he’s started on his own, with his wife Monica and son Tate. Grimes agrees, sharing that Kayce “has a hard time choosing his relationship with his father versus his relationship with his wife and son. I think it’s because it all really matters, and it matters to all of the characters.”
Luke Grimes Hints at ‘Juicy Drama’ in ‘Yellowstone’s Last Season
In an interview with Comicbook.com, Luke Grimes of Yellowstone outlined the main themes of the story, stating that “Love and family and serve your tribe, your people — that’s a huge theme in the show.” He also shared that most of the “juicy drama” fans are waiting for in Yellowstone season 5 will be born out of those same themes.
“That’s sort of where you get all of this really juicy drama, is that everyone is sort of fighting for their team,” said Grimes. “There’s no right team or wrong team, it’s just a bunch of people trying to figure out how to do what’s best for their own.”
Of course, not all of the Yellowstone drama can be seen on screen. There’s also plenty going on backstage, especially when it comes to series-leading star Kevin Costner. Reportedly, the filming of season 5 hit something of a roadblock after Costner and series creator Taylor Sheridan disagreed on the show’s filming schedule. Matters weren’t helped when only four members of the cast showed up to Yellowstone‘s panel at PaleyFest last month or by Kevin Costner’s impending divorce from wife Christine Baumgartner.
Regardless of the circumstances, we’re excited for Yellowstone season 5 and whatever drama it may bring. Yellowstone Season 5: Part 1 is set to release on May 25. Are you looking forward to Yellowstone‘s final season? Is there a specific moment you’re waiting to see? Let us know in the comments!
