It was hard for Mama June’s followers to believe that Anna Cardwell would want to split her daughters. But it was harder for them to accept that she appointed Mama June to raise Kaitlyn.
Following Anna’s death, Michael Cardwell approached Mama June Shannon and told her how much he loved Kaitlyn even though he was not her biological father. He said he is the only father figure she has ever known. He told Mama June he would like to have custody of Kaitlyn and raise her alongside her younger sister. That was a big no from Mama June, so Michael is legally trying to get custody of the 11-year-old.

Lauryn Pumpkin Efird’s recent TikTok reveals that she contacted Michael and told him she had money for Kylee. She also asked if she could get Kylee for an overnight. However, Michael is so upset with this custody situation that he reportedly shut down Pumpkin’s request, telling him he doesn’t think it is a good idea.
So it seems that Michael Cardwell is letting Mama June Shannon and the family know that the two can play that game. But here is the thing: it is not a game. Fans say that the girls have been through enough. They do not need to be pulled apart and fought over. What they need is a safe and stable home where they can heal.
