Margot Robbie is in the business of making childhood dreams come true. Through her production company, LuckyChap, and alongside her partners Josey McNamara and her husband, Tom Ackerley, the Oscar-nominated actress will co-produce an upcoming live-action adaptation of the iconic Hasbro board game Monopoly. Hasbro Entertainment will join LuckyChap in producing the film, and Lionsgate will distribute it. The announcement was made by Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson at CinemaCon in Las Vegas today.
“I could not imagine a better production team for this beloved and iconic brand than LuckyChap. They are exceptional producers who choose their projects with great thought and care, and join Monopoly with a clear point of view. We are tremendously excited to be working with the entire LuckyChap team on what we all believe can be their next blockbuster,” Fogelson said, as reported by Variety. Fogelson did not give any hints about the plot of the film, nor did he mention any potential names attached (aside from Robbie, McNamara, and Ackerley).
Other Childhood Favorites Produced by Margot Robbie
Before gaining rights to Monopoly’s IP, Margot Robbie secured the rights to another popular children’s toy – Barbie. Robbie, of course, played the titular doll in 2023’s biggest box office hit, but prior to signing on as an actress for the film, she secured the rights as a producer. The I, Tonya actress then asked writer/director Greta Gerwig to join the project, who in turn recruited her as the female lead. Although she didn’t receive an Academy Award nomination for her performance in Barbie, Robbie did receive one for Best Picture as a producer.
LuckyChap might make a name for itself as the best production company for live-action game and toy adaptations. Last month, it was announced that the production company is also bringing to life a film adaptation of the popular video game The Sims. Here’s hoping Margot Robbie has a role in one of these upcoming movies, too.
