Marvel came out swinging in 2019. The X-Men returned in force, and the Symbiote God Knull is heading to Earth. Also, the MCU wrapped up Phase 3 with Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: Far From Home. While reactions to these events have been mixed, there is no denying that Marvel made lots of headlines. Now, in preparation for 2020, Marvel has sown the seeds for a new threat to Earth, Empyre.
Marvel’s Incoming! #1 Spoilers
To understand what is happening, you will need to read Incoming! #1. The issue begins with the discovery of an unknown murder victim. As various Marvel heroes begin to investigate, Mister Fantastic discovers the body is that of Bel-Dann, a Kree sleeper agent. This leads the assembled heroes to track down Bel-Dann’s Skrull counterpart, Raksor, who was friends with the victim. Before the Kree died, he left a cryptic message that once decoded, translates to “Beware the trees.” After receiving the message from Mister Fantastic and company, Raksor is immediately killed by a tree.
It turns out that Bel-Dann and Raksor were working to bridge the gap between the Kree and the Skrulls. The Kree-Skrull War has raged for thousands of years, with neither side willing to give in. However, now it seems that Bel-Dann and Raksor have helped mend the ties between the two empires. Both races now unite under the same flag, and this new coalition is led by none other than Hulkling of Young Avengers fame.
Born of a union between the original Captain Marvel (Mar-Vell) and a Skrull princess, Hulkling has greater power than the average Kree or Skrull. Declining to take the throne in the past, Hulkling now leads the unified factions of the Kree and Skrull in finding a new home as Emperor Dorrek VIII. However, the planet they have set their sights on is none other than Earth. Needless to say, this will not go over well with Earth’s denizens, especially Hulkling’s former teammates in the Young Avengers.
Empyre begins in April 2020. How do you feel about Hulkling’s change of heart towards his former home? Who else do you think will join the fight to protect/assault Earth? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
