Marvel announced yesterday they would be releasing a series of one-shot comics titled The End. This series will chronicle the final stories of some of their most popular heroes. The announcement comes straight from the Retailers Panel at New York Comic-Con. The series will be six issues long and will launch in January of next year.
The heroes the series will focus on are Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, Miles Morales, Captain America, Deadpool, and Venom. Marvel’s posting on their site makes it seem they will launch in that order.
“Spanning the near future to the end of the universe, from happily ever after to the depths of despair, these unforgettable and surprising tales follow our heroes to their natural and unnatural conclusions!”
It’s unclear why these specific characters were chosen. But they are undoubtedly now some of the most recognizable heroes in the Marvel roster. However, we have the movie adaptations to thank for that.
Each one-shot will come with a different creative team. For Captain Marvel: The End #1, Kelly Thompson (Hawkeye) will write while Georges Jeanty (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) handles art. For Doctor Strange: The End #1, Leah Williams (Gwenpool Strikes Back) will write with artist Filipe Andrade (Old Man Logan). On Miles Morales: The End #1, Saladin Ahmed (The Magnificent Ms. Marvel) will pen while Damion Scott (Batgirl) covers art. For Captain America: The End #1, Erik Larsen (Savage Dragon) will act as both writer and artist. On Deadpool: The End #1, Joe Kelly (Spider-Man/Deadpool) will write while Mike Hawthorne (Conan) covers art. And finally, Venom: The End #1 will be handled by writer Adam Warren (Iron Man) and artist Chamba (Street Fighter).
The number of years each story will jump forward varies drastically. For example, Venom’s story (the symbiote, not Eddie Brock) will span over a trillion years.
With the amount of love behind each character and the distinct creative teams on board, there should be something for everyone.
