Deadpool & Wolverine is the next biggest thing in Marvel’s pipeline, and so far, it looks great. Audiences were treated to nine minutes of footage from the movie at CinemaCon earlier this week, and now Marvel is giving us a sneak peek of Deadpool’s new suit. Andy Park, an artist for Marvel Studios, posted concept art of the Merc with a Mouth’s new getup, which is sporting a few minor details to set this Deadpool apart from previous iterations. A full look more of Park’s art will be available in Marvel Stuios’ Deadpool and Wolverine: The Art of the Movie this October.

Most Marvel fans will know that Deadpool has a complicated film history, to put it kindly. He first showed up in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009), but that Deadpool was practically unrecognizable to the wisecracking version we have these days. Most notably, the “Merc with a Mouth” had his mouth sewn shut, sapping the character of a lot of his charm and general likeability. Nevertheless, Ryan Reynolds kept pushing for a better version of Deadpool, resulting in Deadpool (2016), complete with the irreverent, fourth-wall-breaking mercenary we all know and love.

Reynolds hasn’t forgotten his character’s roots, however, and the strong friendship between him and Hugh Jackman – aka Wolverine – was the main force driving the third Deadpool movie, officially titled Deadpool & Wolverine, to the screen. Not only does the movie mark Jackman’s return as Wolverine, it’s also going to pay homage to the FOX era X-Men movies and their version of Deadpool. To this end, Marvel’s artists were tasked with making the merc a suit that kept his trademark red-and-black look, but also set itself apart from the versions of Deadpool that Marvel would rather forget.

The concept art, posted by Marvel Studios artist Andy Park, sure seems to deliver: it’s got a clean, updated look, with a few modern touches to bring it out of 2009, like the straps and belts across his chest and waist. More details regarding the making of the suit will likely be included in the movie’s art book, Deadpool & Wolverine: The Art of the Movie, out this October.
