Comic books are a strange beast. Aside from the obvious stuff they have to adhere to for rating system, comics have free range to do a bunch of crazy stuff. A few years ago, Spider-Man was trapped in a realm of other Spider-Men and women from another universe. Now, Marvel teases the same thing could happen to their anti-hero Venom.
The image below was posted by Marvel on social media and it makes clear that Venomverse will be a thing in the coming future. Shown, is Venom himself standing front and center. Beside him are Venomized Marvel characters like Deadpool and Wolverine. As of how this comes about is currently unknown.
For those who aren’t up to speed, Venom is Spidey’s more prolific villain. He debuted in the early 90s and took off to superstardom because of how aggressive and dangerous he was to Spider-Man. Venom is Spidey’s polar opposite, he matches his skills but did what he did for evil. Recently, he’s become more of an anti-hero than a villain. Venom is actually an alien symbiote from the moon. J Jonah Jameson’s son went to the moon and brought back the alien by mistake. It latched itself onto Eddie Brock, a photographer for the Daily Bugle and combined with Brocks hatred for Spider-Man, Venom was born. Yup, comic books.
Venom also made his film debut in 2007 in Sam Rami’s Spider-Man 3 film. It definitely wasn’t what fans hoped for, as Topher Grace played the character in an underwhelming fashion. Also, back in 2008, the idea of a Venomverse was explored in the game Spider-Man: Web of Shadows where the hero saw New York City infected with the symbiotes. Venomverse is set to drop sometime in June. For now, we can only speculate on what this means for the Marvel comic universe.
