We are always wondering what the MCU is building towards in every corner of the universe. On January 9, Echo drops all five episodes on Disney Plus and Hulu. The first TV-MA series of the MCU brings Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio), who we last saw in Hawkeye after an unfortunate incident with his eye, back to our screen. But what could this be building toward? According to Marvel producer Brad Winderbaum, Kingpin could be seen as a smaller-scaled version of Thanos to our street-level heroes, like Daredevil and Spider-Man.
Marvel Producer Teases the Future of Kingpin in the MCU
In an interview with Screen Rant, it was brought up to the executive producer about the build-up of the popular villain to being an Avengers villain for the grounded characters who take on non-world-threatening antagonists. For Winderbaum, the interviewer, Joe Deckelmeir, “hit the nail on the head. While he couldn’t say much, he could do a little tease to get fans excited.
I can’t say too much. Only that as a chapter in Wilson Fisk’s life this is a crucial one and sets the stage in some remarkable ways for what’s coming next.

As we have seen with the Infinity Saga and currently in the problematic and different pacing of the Multiverse Saga, Marvel always has a plan, even for Kingpin. Kevin Feige has previously confirmed that the street-level characters are in their own corner, just like Captain Marvel and the Guardians defend against galactic foes. So, it would be feasible to see crossovers between these characters and to see them possibly unite over a common enemy in a nicely tailored suit.
Echo will be the first of many for the MCU. It will be its first Native American-led story in live-action and the first disabled character to be leading their own project. Not only do we have the diversity aspect of the show, but it will also be the first TV-MA series that will open up a more mature door for the universe. Other TV-MA or rated R projects include Deadpool 3, Blade, and Marvel Zombies. Daredevil: Born Again is rumored to be TV-MA, but we have no confirmation on this yet.
