Marvel’s February releases will feature Sam Wilson’s Captain America, Luke Cage, and more in honor of Black History Month. These variants will show off Wilson and Cage as well as other iconic black heroes like Miles Morales, Night Thrasher, and Rocket Racer. Plus, Night Thrasher’s variant cover will adorn the hero’s debut issue for his new series. These variants come from some of the brightest talents in the biz and will appear on select issues throughout the entire month.
Black History Month Variants
The variant featuring Captain America appears on Captain America #6 next year. It comes from superstar artist Mateus Manhanini and shows Sam Wilson in his winged Cap suit holding his shield up high. Meanwhile, Luke Cage pops up on the Black History Month variant for Fantastic Four #17. It comes from Ernanda Souza and features the hero deflecting some incoming attacks. Both these issues hit shelves on February 7.
Then, Rocket Racer’s variant comes from Karen Darboe. The hero is featured on a variant cover for Amazing Spider-Man #44. Speaking of Spider-Man, Miles Morales: Spider-Man #16 will also feature a Black History Month variant. This one comes from Taurin Clarke and will presumably feature the titular hero. Then, David Go shows off Night Thrasher on the Black History variant for the hero’s own series, Night Thrasher #1.
Marvel Sidekicks
One of the Black History Month variants will adorn Black Panther #9. It comes from artist Dotun Akande and will feature one of the New Champions from earlier this year. Marvel artists designed a slew of potential sidekicks for Marvel heroes. These heroes popped up on this year’s New Champions variants. Now, one of those sidekicks returns in the Black History Month variant for Black Panther #9. Akande gives their take on the character created by Ernanda Souza.
This is not the only New Champion fans will see. Peach Momoko’s New Champion creation, called Maystorm, is set to take on a leading role in the upcoming Ultimate X-Men series.
