Marvel’s Ultimate Universe is making a comeback in a new series from Jonathan Hickam and Bryan Hitch. The series, Ultimate Invasion, stars Miles Morales and The Maker and kicks off later this June.
Marvel’s Ultimate Universe
The folks at Entertainment Weekly announced this upcoming series and return to the Ultimate Universe. For those unfamiliar with the Universe, Marvel gave a quick tease on what to expect from it and this new four-issue limited series. Having launched over two decades ago, the Ultimate Universe offered a contemporary take on classic Marvel characters and storylines. These stories became known for their explosive action and toeing the line on what readers and fans might expect from Marvel. They soon became the home of some of Marvel’s most iconic storylines and series.
However, the Ultimate Universe came to a climactic close with Secret Wars in 2015. Though, nothing is ever really gone in the world of Marvel and The Maker is poised to possibly rebuild that universe. Luckily, the Illuminati are ready and waiting to stop such a universal threat. And this time, Miles Morales is playing a key role.
What to Expect
Hickman and Hitch shared a bit on what fans can expect from the resurrection of Marvel’s Ultimate Universe. With both creators having experience with Ultimate books, they knew Ultimate Invasion had to be something completely new. After all, as Hickman notes, “it couldn’t be replicating or revisiting what [Hitch] did in the original Ultimates – creating a streamlined, modernized version that would eventually become the spine of the MCU. It certainly couldn’t be what [Hickman] did, which was a final chapter of a pre-existing universe.” As Hitch puts it, “it’s new, different, and familiar. It’s big budget, high-concept, widescreen storytelling”.
Ultimate Invasion #1 is written by Jonathan Hickman with Bryan Hitch offering art, cover art, and a foil variant cover. It releases on June 21.
