A lot of incredibly strange things have already happened this year, and we are only four months in. We’ve elected a criminal President, decades of work put in place by activists have all but been erased, and now, celebrities are launching themselves into space for 10 minutes. Fortunately, TikTok is free, and people can express how they feel about the entire absurd situation—even random women in Maryland.

Maryland TikToker amymaurercreel shared her perspective on the trip, which included Katy Perry, Jeff Bezos’ fiancée Lauren Sanchez, Gayle King, Aisha Bowe, Amanda Nguyen, and Kerianna Flynn. The entire trip cost about $28 million, which, in reality, could have changed the lives of so many people who are struggling to pay bills every day.

The six women were in space for about 11 minutes before making the descent back through the Earth’s atmosphere. I had also been keeping track of the trip, mostly because it seemed absolutely insane. However, I didn’t really think about the financial and status implications it had on the average person until Katy Perry came through the ship’s doors after landing and said, “I feel so connected to love.”

“$28M could’ve changed lives. But sure, let’s race to space while people can’t afford toothpaste.”

The pop star was once a staple of early 2010s music, and her contributions have shaped how some performers approach their stage presence. However, in more recent years, Perry has been ridiculed and criticized for her choices in many different situations. Just recently, the singer and her husband, Orlando Bloom, sued an 85-year-old military veteran for handing over his home to her when he was not in the right state of mind.

Perry has also recently begun collaborating with producer Dr. Luke, who fellow singer Kesha accused of sexual assault. If that isn’t bad enough, she once drove a legitimate nun to death for her actions concerning a convent. Hopefully, Perry will look back at her decisions and realize the type of light that she is placing on those with access to more money than some people will ever see in their lives.
