A woman in Maryland is facing backlash online after she complained about NFL draftees publicly thanking God during the draft.

It appears that many NFL draftees repeatedly say “Glory be to God” during draft moments in the NFL, often as an expression of gratitude after being selected. The woman went viral after posting a video questioning this trend. In the clip, she asked, “When did everybody become ‘Glory be to God’?” and repeated the phrase to emphasize how frequently she noticed players and their families using it during the draft.

“When did football become a church?” she asked, questioning the growing presence of religious expressions during NFL draft moments. She explained that she has always loved football and even played the sport, but said she was wondering when the “church [expletive]” became part of the game. She added that hearing players frequently thanking God felt “overwhelming.”

The woman then gave an example, suggesting that if she walked up to someone saying, “Glory be to God,” people would assume she had been kidnapped or “programmed.” She argued that this kind of public expression of faith felt “too much” and overly widespread. Her remarks drew criticism online, with some viewers describing her language as offensive due to what they saw as a harsh stance toward Christianity. She also added, “It’s like the whole country is being taken over by this sickness,” further intensifying the backlash.

In addition to describing the religious expressions as a “sickness,” the woman elaborated on her reasoning, saying, “I call it a sickness because these conservative Christians and all these people are just making me go away from anything that I might have been coming towards God.”

She added that, in her view, spirituality should be an internal practice among like-minded people, ideally within a church setting. “It’s not what you get on television and scream glory be to God,” she said. She then addressed NFL players directly, suggesting they should also acknowledge their own efforts, since they are the ones who worked hard to reach the league. Her comments quickly became controversial online, with many people calling them disrespectful and criticizing her tone toward religious expression in sports.

Viewers Outraged After Maryland Woman’s Controversial Remarks

The video sparked reactions online. Many viewers criticized the Maryland woman’s comments about NFL draftees thanking God, arguing that players should be free to express their faith during the NFL draft process. One person angrily wrote, “Ok, [expletive], let’s get one thing straight, they weren’t talking to you‼‼ I doubt they said ‘to all the ugly Karen’s out there, Glory be to God’. If you don’t like what they have to say, don’t watch it.” Another commenter took a different approach, saying, “Sometimes the people who are the most offended by Jesus end up being the greatest evangelists. Praying that God touches her heart and she sees the truth.”

More viewers in Maryland continued to criticize the woman’s remarks, arguing that her reaction was unnecessary and dismissive of personal expression. One commenter wrote, “it has no effect on her life and still [expletive] about it! She just doesn’t want to hear it and doesn’t care about the person’s RIGHT to say it…..” Another person added, “She’s miserable and feels the need to share her misery with the rest of the world. The result of a faithless life.” Others said players expressing their faith is a personal choice and part of their moment.

Many people saw the video as controversial and argued that NFL players should be free to express their faith without criticism.
