A Massachusetts homeowner is speaking out after what they describe as a “nightmare” experience with a contractor hired to complete window and siding work. The homeowner says the project, which began on February 9, was supposed to improve their home but instead led to damage, delays, and safety concerns. They are now warning others to be cautious when hiring contractors after what they call a stressful and costly ordeal.
The story was posted to Reddit’s r/massachusetts forum, where the homeowner yup2you detailed their experience and shared multiple photos showing the condition of their home. The post quickly gained attention, receiving more than 200 upvotes and dozens of comments. Many users said they were shocked by the situation, while others shared similar experiences or concerns about contractor oversight and accountability.
Massachusetts Homeowner Shares Nightmare Experience
In the post, the Massachusetts homeowner describes a project that appeared to go wrong early on and continued to face issues throughout. They claim windows were initially installed without proper insulation and had to be removed and reinstalled. In another case, they say a new window was installed without the required permit and lacked a structural header. Although that issue was later corrected and a permit was pulled, the homeowner alleges the process caused damage to the surrounding interior walls.
One of the most serious incidents, according to the Massachusetts homeowner, happened during a February blizzard. They say a custom door was installed incorrectly after being improperly measured, leaving visible gaps and exposing the home to harsh winter conditions. The homeowner claims the issue was not fully addressed for about a week, during which time they and their 4-year-old child were living in the home.
They also allege ongoing problems with interior trim work, describing it as poor quality, along with an unsecured deck and unfinished siding. According to the post, much of the contractor’s time on site was spent fixing earlier mistakes rather than completing new work. The Massachusetts homeowner also claims there was little oversight and that communication throughout the process was frustrating and unproductive.
After requesting a third-party inspection of the window installation, the homeowner says they were told by the contractor to seek legal counsel instead. “We hired them to make our house better, not worse,” the Massachusetts homeowner wrote, describing the toll the experience has taken.
Reddit users who responded to the post expressed anger and concern, with some saying they had experienced similar issues. One user wrote, “Yeah, I hired them to replace a roof and some skylights, and they pulled the exact same thing with me. The worst part is they take notes constantly but never refer back to them. So they are always forgetting things and half-passing everything they touch.”
