If you are like me, a trip to the scales in which shows that you have gained a couple of pounds merits that I should hit the gym and stop the weight gain in its tracks. Ubisoft seems to be hoping that you will have the opposite reaction with their newly announced game Atomega. In Atomega, gaining mass is the name of the game as the greater your girth the more powerful you are in this multiplayer battler.
Atomega features life forms that start out as a single atom, or block. The goal is to accumulate more atoms to build and evolve your life form into more powerful creatures. This can be done peacefully but also by blasting your opponents into their building blocks so you can co-opt their mass. With more mass to your being, you will turn into a more “massive” and powerful form. Think Evolve meets Spore.
Each round in the game lasts ten minutes and features up to eight players battling to become the most massive of them all. The gigantic fighting the minuscule, and everything in between, means that there is sure to be plenty of asymmetric warfare going on and that every one on one battle may not necessarily be fair. Good thing there are plenty weaker players to team up against those that have accumulated the most mass so far in any battle.
Atomega is being developed by Reflections, a company owned by Ubisoft. It will be released September 19, 2017, on PC. There is currently no word on whether the title will migrate to consoles in the future. Ubisoft has a steady stream of triple A and smaller budget titles on the horizon. Both sides of the spectrum are represented in the next few months with the likes of Assassin’s Creed Origins and Atomega both releasing in the next six weeks.
