Maura West is one of the leading ladies of General Hospital. Since 2013, the Daytime Emmy winner has played the art dealer/mob heiress Ava Jerome. Whether Ava is a bad girl or a flawed heroine, West delivers in whatever material she’s given. There’s no denying that West is a pivotal part of the ABC soap opera. But Ava’s recent storyline is raising suspicions about the character and her portrayer’s future.
General Hospital Fans Worry Maura West Is Being Written Out
West has an illustrious career in soap operas. The actress got her start on As the World Turns, playing Carly Tenney from 1995 to 2010. She then briefly portrayed Diane Jenkins on The Young and the Restless before finding her home on General Hospital.
Since joining the ABC drama, West has earned new legions of fans and added another Daytime Emmy to her shelf. Having a highly-caliber talented actress like West, is a dream come true for producers. However, some viewers are suspicious that the show is trying write her out.
Currently, her character Ava is in a huge storyline with Sonny Corinthos. The mob boss is losing control of his life, and has no one to trust, but Ava. But she might have ulterior motives.
Someone’s been tampering with Sonny’s medications, which is causing his downard spiral. All signs point to Ava, and this is reminiscent of when she tinkered with Morgan Corinthos’ pills. Ava’s actions indirectly lead to Morgan’s death, and if the writers are going in the same direction with Sonny’s story, things aren’t looking good for Ava.
Viewers are wondering if the storyline is setting up Ava and West’s exits. On a Reddit thread, General Hospital fans discussed the possibility of it happening.
One fan was nervous Ava’s future:
I don’t see how Ava and Valentin can come out of messing with Sonny without him killing them. It does seem like they’re writing these two characters into a corner and out of the show.
Another commenter wouldn’t be surprised if the show let her go:
I could see GH making a bonehead move like that. Look how they did Billy Miller and RoHo. Anything to free up more airtime for those three I will not mention.
Another viewer was more optimistic:
Unless it’s her choice, I don’t think they would let Maura West go. She really is one of the best, if not the best actor on the show. I’m hoping she’ll eventually tell Sonny about the meds, but she’ll wait long enough for him to go off the deep end. She’ll still come off like she’s helping him & he won’t know how long she knew.
It’s understandable why fans might be worried over a cast member leaving. So far this year, two of the show’s youngest stars Avery Pohl and Nicholas Chavez left.
As for West, there’s no rumors about her leaving, yet that doesn’t seem to calm the fans’ fears. Viewers will have to wait and see how Ava’s story plays out, and if her future remains in Port Charles.
