Meghan Markle‘s rumored separation from husband Prince Harry would reach new heights should the duchess fail to attend the 2025 Invictus Games in Canada. The Sussex royals have reportedly made the decision to embark on a “professional separation,” which entails pursuing their individual careers independent of each other. Their latest ventures seem to confirm this new approach, with Harry undertaking various trips including his solo New York visit during the Climate Week, a trip to the UK as a guest attendee at the WellChild Awards, and his visit to South Africa, all within the last quarter.
Meghan Markle has also had her fair share of solo engagements, most notably making a bold red carpet comeback at the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles’ 2024 gala. While these solo appearances point at a possible move to go their separate ways albeit professionally, their joint presence is no doubt necessary in certain areas. The next stop in the couple’s itinerary known to the public is the 2025 Invictus Games taking place in Canada in 2025. Notably, the pair have attended the event together each year since 2017, with Prince Harry being the noble Patron of the Invictus Games Foundation. Like previous years, Meghan Markle joined her husband in February this year for an Invictus Games promotional event in Vancouver.
However, amid their increasing string of solo appearances, the Duchess noticeably failed to accompany her husband for another visit to Vancouver earlier this month, where he took on various engagements in line with the upcoming games. This daring move highlighted the reality of their “professional separation,” and what it means for the Invictus Games.
Meghan Markle’s Absence at the Invictus Games in Canada Would Verify Separation
Amid growing concern that Meghan Markle would miss the Invictus Games come February, royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams believes her absence would say more about the state of her relationship with Harry. Speaking to GB News, he divulged,
“I can say with absolute certainty that they will be there as a couple. They have a history of being there together and if she did not, it would indicate some form of separation.”
Going further, Richard admitted that contrary to the widespread speculations about a looming divorce, he believed Meghan Markle and Prince Harry intentionally feed the rumors of their “separation” with continued solo engagements as a new approach to promoting the Sussexes’ brand, and her absence at the Invictus Games would be no exception. He shared,
“This is obviously a new tactic. As in every brand the Sussexes want to promote their brand as best as they can They have tried something that has worked with the so-called royal tours of Nigeria and Colombia. Then we have got the solo engagements, so they are experimenting.”
Richard Fitzgerald attributed Harry and Meghan’s social “experiment” to the need to maintain their profile since attacking the royal family was out of bounds at the moment. Their quest for new methods of keeping their profile has seen the duo embark on joint, non-royal tours as well as solo appearances. The royal commentator added that this solo approach, each with their personal touch, “definitely works with Prince Harry.” Whether Meghan Markle and Prince Harry would soar on this “doctored” separation with the Invictus Games on the table remains to be seen come February 2025.
