Meghan Markle’s UK exit is not an easy fix as pal reveals her vow never to set foot in the UK again despite Prince Harry’s yearnings. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex shook the world in 2020 with the announcement of their decision to step back from royal duties and split their lives between the US and the UK. They ended up relocating to the United States, where they have continued to raise their two children, Archie and Lilibeth. However, the royal family’s reaction to their exit, as well as the multiple bridges they’ve burned by casting the firm in a dark light made their initial plans to split their time between both countries unrealistic.
In recent times, it appears the Duke of Sussex is on the path to mending fences with his estranged family, amid claims he was weary of life in California. However, one obstacle on Prince Harry’s path to a UK comeback is his wife, Meghan Markle. In his 2023 book, Endgame, royal author Omid Scobie, considered a pal of Meghan’s and often dubbed her “mouthpiece” revealed the Duchess’ decision was much deeper than the Sussexes’ royal exile.
Meghan Markle Vows Never to Set Foot in England
Omid Scobie claimed Meghan Markle “never wants to step foot in England again”, because she “never truly felt at home there.” He further alleged that the Suits alum never wanted to be “involved in the British monarchy again.” Her reservations result from the hardships the actress-turned-royal claimed to have suffered during her time as a working royal.
Sadly, Prince Harry does not share his wife’s views when it comes to making a UK comeback. The royal author suggested the Duke was more open to making a return, forgetting lingering discords and reuniting with his royal family for good. He quoted Harry’s words from a past interview saying,
“I’m ready to move on past it. Whether we get an apology or accountability. Who knows? Who really cares at this point?”
Despite his eagerness to make a UK comeback, Prince Harry has no intention of doing so without his wife Meghan Markle, or his two kids. A source divulged,
“Harry is very keen for his entire family to join him. It’s important for him that they show a united front and focus on building bridges with the rest of the royal family.”
The Invictus Games Offer the Sussexes a Chance at a Royal Comeback
Going further, the source noted that hosting the Invictus Games in the UK come 2027 is an opportunity for the estranged prince to make a comeback. While Harry is “keen to take it,” he insists his wife and kids must accompany him on the trip. However, with Meghan’s vow to never return to the UK, she remains “apprehensive,” showing how uncomfortable she found her stay in the country.
Royal author, Tom Quinn also weighed in on Meghan Markle’s reluctance to support her husband’s UK return despite knowing how much the Invictus Games meant to him. He noted,
“This is causing huge tension in the couple’s relationship. Meghan now realizes with the games coming up an her father-in-law seriously ill that you should never say never.”
The author went on to commend the Prince’s efforts so far as the founding patron of the Invictus Games, a sporting event that offers wounded veterans a chance to compete in their preferred sport. Tom praised Prince Harry for not making the Games “all about him” so far, noting that that image was indeed great for the Sussexes’ brand and one Meghan Markle needed to tap into.
