However, the title belongs to his brother, Prince William, the heir apparent to the British throne. Despite the error, Samantha’s attorney, Peter Ticktin, tried to play it off. He argued that, as Americans, no one cared if Harry was the Duke of Wales, Sussex, or Earl. His displeasure towards Meghan’s husband continued with the comment:
“In fact, I wish I could say it was simply a spelling mistake when he should have been the Duke of Wails.”
Ticktin also bashed Harry’s fight against the media, calling him a “foreigner” who believed the First Amendment was “bonkers.” He noted the Duke was a “guest,” yet “his goal seems to be to control our speech,” per Radar. Samantha’s defamation lawsuit and Ticktin’s comments sparked numerous retorts from fans on X.
Many called out Meghan’s half-sister for being a “troll,” with someone noting her hatred started from day one. The fan pointed out that Samantha stopped her public attacks when Meghan got engaged to Harry. They believed she stayed quiet because she wanted an invite to the royal wedding, adding:

Another slammed Samantha’s attorney as “A Sad Little Man” for failing to be accountable for mistaking Harry for William. One X user found the situation hilarious, mocking Meghan’s half-sister for repeatedly losing all her cases against the Duchess. “Cry Harder, Scammy!” they teased.
Samantha’s defamation lawsuit drama comes months after she called Meghan a “lair.” We covered her comments about her half-sister in June, noting she shared a different narrative about the royal wedding. Samantha nor her daughter Ashleigh received an invitation to Meghan and Harry’s 2018 ceremony. In her Netflix documentary, Harry & Meghan, the Duchess explained why she could not invite her niece. She claimed she tried to avoid the negative press that would have occurred if she invited Ashleigh without Samantha.
Ashleigh noted in the documentary that she was heartbroken by the outcome since it stemmed from her mother’s bad influence. However, Samantha claimed her half-sister never wanted to invite any of them, saying, “Meghan lied to my daughter. Which made my daughter feel begrudging of me.”
