Castlevania: Lords of Shadow developer MercurySteam is teasing an upcoming game via a cryptic message. If you go to MercurySteams official website you will see the image of a man smoking a cigar in what resembles a futuristic cockpit surrounded by instruments and screens, with a message reading:
STATUS: Exploring new worlds, fighting strange creatures, discovering new heroes. Expect news soon..
Directly below the message it has a list of old missions including the Castlevania games, a twitter icon and “I+D+I”. Clicking on the “I+D+I” towards the bottom of the page leads us to a new page with the following message (translated):
With funding from the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism within the National Plan for Scientific Research, Development and Technological Innovation 2003-2016.
Record TSI-100900-2014-080: Multi-genre game development for new platforms: Aleph
Record TSI-100900-2014-058: Naked
Located on the Ministry’s website is a pdf whose two MercurySteam entries suggest the new game is called either “Aleph” or “Naked.” For Aleph, they list a grant of 466.018,02 and a loan of 4.194.162,18. Naked received a grant of 362.658,22 and a loan of 3.263.923,98.
Just based on the given information so far, it may be likely that Konami has given the Spain based developer the reigns to the Contra franchise. Depending on how you look at it, this could be seen as good or bad news. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow received mostly positive reviews while its sequel received mostly negative reviews.
MercurySteam’s past works include:
- American McGee Presents: Scrapland (Xbox, PC)
- Clive Barker’s Jericho (PS3, 360, PC)
- Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (PS3, 360, PC)
- Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate (3DS, PS3, 360, PC)
- Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 (PS3, 360, PC)
With Gamescom 2015 less than two weeks away, it seems like we’ll be getting a full reveal for their new game some time during the conference. Stay tuned for details!
