Festivals are the best moment to both farm and use Steamworks fuel in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne. During that period, the Steamworks will drop better rewards like Steel, Silver, Gold, and Celestial Tickets in larger amounts. Obviously, farming some coals for fuel in the Guiding Lands will be crucial to take advantage of the Gathering Hub event. But considering the hunting area is quite large, what kind of route you should take for farming fuels?
MHW Iceborne: The Best and Fastest Steamworks Fuel Mining Route
- Start your Iceborne Steamworks fuel farming by spawning in Eastern Camp (Camp 3).
- Put on Assassin’s Hood if you have it.
- Immediately go to the Coral Area and mine all available mining nodes.
- Go to the Tundra Area once you’re done, mine all the crystals.
- If your Assassin’s Hood is depleted, switch to a Ghillie Mantle to avoid detection and regen the Hood.
- Quickly open your map and Fast Travel back to Camp 3.
- Drop through the hole across the Camp’s entrance into the Volcano Area, mine there.
- After you’re done, mine nodes in the Rotten Area.
- Fast Travel to Camp 3 again, rinse and repeat.
If your Assassin’s Hood still hasn’t recovered after you’re done with Coral, just skip Tundra and go to the Volcano and Rotten areas instead. It will save more time for mining MHW Iceborne Steamworks fuel. Don’t forget to change to a Mantle with Tool Specialist in it.
I suggest bringing Ghille or Glider Mantle since they have the longest upkeep and shortest recovery time as well. Plus, you can use Ghillie to hide from large monsters, and then Banish Ball them to the shadow realm, if you need to. Below is our MHW Iceborne video guide for the fastest Steamworks fuel mining route, in case you need more help.
Another trick you need to know when farming Steamworks fuel in Iceborne is that there are three different types of coals. To make sure you only get the best one, Dragonvein Coal Chunk, never mine a crystal until they’re depleted! Always save the last of items of each mining node to keep it at the maximum rarity level. Because when a Giant Mining Outcrop finally spawns and you mine it, it will downgrade all mining nodes in the area as well.
Aside from mining in Guiding Lands, you can also complete the “MR★6 A Farewell to Zinogre” for fuels. Just make sure you wallbang the Zinogre often and pick up the shinies. These are the three tiers of Steamworks fuel that you can get in MHW Iceborne:
- Dragonvein Shard: 20 Fuel
- Dragonvein Coal: 100 Fuel
- Dragonvein Coal Chunk: 500 Fuel
Before you go to the Guiding Lands to mine Steamworks fuels, always prepare your best Iceborne gathering set first. The most recommended skills you should look out for in your armor sets are:
- Master Gatherer: Makes your gathering animation faster and negates knockback from monsters’ attacks when gathering Steamworks fuel in Iceborne.
- Geologist Level 3: While Level 1 lets you pick up “shinies” (monster drops) twice, Level 3 will help you gather one more item from nodes.
- Intimidator Level 3: To scare away small monsters while you are busy with mining.
- Tool Specialist Level 1: Assassin’s Mantle will be crucial for farming so you want to maximize upkeep. Instead of wasting more slots on your armor, you can just dump the other levels to your Mantles instead.
- Marathon Runner or Stamina Surge: Useful for making you use less or regenerate more stamina.
Monster Hunter World: Iceborne is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
