Creed 3 Finds Its Director By Looking To Its Star
Michael B. Jordan’s co-star Tessa Thompson confirmed that the 33-year-old actor will be behind the camera for Creed 3. This announcement comes after hearing rumors about Jordan being placed in the director’s chair for the third film in the series.
Creed 3 will continue the story of Adonis “Donnie” Creed, a boxer fulfilling his destiny after learning about his famous father, Apollo Creed. The Creed films follow Adonis’ rise to becoming a successful boxing champion. With Rocky Balboa and his fiancée Bianca by his side, Adonis has prevailed on personal obstacles as well as those who oppose him inside the ring. Michael B. Jordan is reprising his role; Rocky Balboa is played by Sylvester Stallone, who reprises his character from the Rocky films; Bianca is played by Thor: Ragnarok and Sorry to Bother You star Tessa Thompson.
The first Creed film was directed by Fruitvale Station and Black Panther director Ryan Coogler. He was soon replaced by Steven Caple Jr. for the sequel. Michael B. Jordan will make his directorial debut for Creed 3 after being promised by producer Irwin Wrinkler that he will have his chance. Jordan himself has shown enthusiasm for his newly acquired opportunity, saying:
I’ve been learning since I was like twelve years old, being on set. Seeing what everybody does, all the departments. From the wardrobe stuff to the sound. I’ve always cared about what everybody needed. It’s kinda like a perfect perspective to have to be able to help run a set. I just love to collaborate. And empower people to do what they do best.”
Creed 3 will go into production starting in the second half of 2021. This is probably due to Tessa Thompson’s role as Valkyrie, who is returning for Thor: Love and Thunder, which begins shooting early next year.
