Mojang has just run the Minecraft Live 2022 livestream event on October 15, 2022, and announced that the sandbox game is getting its major content update in 2023 with the Minecraft 1.20 update. What are the new and interesting changes that will be added to the game, you ask? Well, wonder no more; today, we bring you the complete list of everything that we know is going to be added to the Minecraft 1.20 update.
Table of Contents:
- Minecraft 1.20 Update Release Date

- New Mobs in Minecraft 1.20 Update: Camel and Sniffer
- List of New Blocks and Items
- 7 New Default Skins Added to the Game
1. Minecraft 1.20 Update Release Date
Minecraft 1.20 update is planned to be released sometime in 2023, although a specific date — and the name of the update itself — is yet to be announced. But to keep our excitement and hype running, Mojang also said that the company is releasing snapshots and Preview builds for the 1.20 update a “few days” after the Minecraft Live 2022 event on October 15.
2. Is There a New Biome in Minecraft 1.20 Update?
Unfortunately, Mojang has confirmed that there won’t be new biomes in the latest update. Nevertheless, this is not the first time a major update doesn’t include any new biome. Back in 2019, with Minecraft 1.15 update Buzzy Bees, Mojang introduced only the Bee mob and everything related to it, such as Honey Blocks, Honeycombs, and Bee Nests.
3. New Mobs in Minecraft 1.20 Update: Camel and Sniffer
Although there won’t be new regions to visit, there are two new unique mobs to play around with. First, the Camel. You and one of your friends will be able to ride this new mob that has the Dash ability that lets the Camel walk faster or jump over obstacles. Most aggressive mobs also won’t be able to reach you when riding it because Camels are tall. Funny enough, you can breed a Camel with a Cactus in order to produce a baby Camel.
And the second one is the Sniffer, the mob that won the Mob Vote during Minecraft Live 2022. Described as an “ancient mob,” this weird creature will hatch from Sniffer Eggs, which can be found in Ocean Ruin Chests. Once hatched, they can be utilized to find and dig out Ancient Seeds to grow new types of decorative Plants.
Not much is known about them so far, but we will update this article once more info has been dropped.
4. List of New Blocks and Items
Along with new mobs, of course, there will be new items that expand the sandbox and crafting elements of the Minecraft 1.20 update as well. Below is the list of known new Blocks and items so far:
Blocks:
Bamboo Planks:
- Crafted using Bamboo and can be used to craft various types of Bamboo items, including Bamboo Slabs, Stairs, Signs, Doors, Pressure Plates, and the new Bamboo Mosaic Block among others.
Bamboo Mosaic.
Chiseled Bookshelf:
- Can be used to store up to six Books, Enchanted Books, or Books and Quills. Compatible with a Redstone.
Oak Hanging Sign:
- Crafted using Stripped Logs and Chains. Acts just like normal Signs and the texts can be tinted with Glow Ink Sacs.
- Has 3 Block variants: Hanging from the side, hanging below a wide Block, and hanging below a narrower Block.
- Has 10 wood variants: Bamboo, Acacia, Oak, Dark Oak, Crimson, Spruce, Birch, Jungle, Mangrove, and Warped.
Sniffer Egg:
- The name is prone to change.
- Will hatch into a baby Sniffer, the new mob in Minecraft 1.20 update, and can be found in Ocean Ruin Chests.
Items:
Ancient Seeds:
- The name is prone to change.
- A Seed that can be dug by the new mob, Sniffer. Once planted will grow into new Plants.
Raft:
- A Boat crafted with Bamboo Planks has a variant with a Chest in it.
5. 7 New Default Skins Added to the Game
Last but not least, Steve and Alex are getting seven new friends that open up more “representation” and “self-expression” in the game: Ari, Efe, Kai, Makena, Noor, Sunny, and Zuri. Interestingly, these new characters will come faster before Minecraft 1.20 update launch; Mojang is planning to introduce them around November or December 2022. Of course, their additions will not change how Bedrock and Java players are able to customize or download skin mods for their own characters.
