Miss USA is back and headed to the CW for its first television broadcast in four years. The 72nd annual Miss USA pageant will be airing on the CW later this month, alongside Miss Teen USA on the CW app. The broadcast will mark the first time the pageant has had a television broadcast since 2019, and with both pageants now under new ownership, this could be the start of a new era for Miss USA and Miss Teen USA. For their part in the collaboration, executives at the CW have stated that they are “thrilled” to be working with the Miss USA and Miss Teen USA franchise.
‘Miss USA’ And ‘Miss Teen USA’ Are Coming to the CW
The 72nd annual Miss USA is coming to the CW on September 29th, 2023, ending a four-year period in which, the competition was not televised. In 2019, Miss USA was broadcast for the last time on Fox, with Nick and Vanessa Lachey returning as two-time hosts, along with commentator Lu Sierra. While the hosts and commentators for the CW’s broadcast of Miss USA have not been announced yet, it has been confirmed that both Miss USA and Miss Teen USA will take place at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada, per tradition. There, titleholders from each state will compete for the title of Miss USA or Miss Teen USA, with the winners being crowned by Miss USA 2022 Morgan Romano or Miss Teen USA 2022 Faron Medhi, respectively.
Regarding the CW’s collaboration with the pageants, Laylah Rose, the CEO of VIP Pagentry and the new owner of the Miss USA franchise, gave Variety the following statement:
“I am incredibly excited about the collaboration with the CW for the broadcast of the Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageants. We are eagerly anticipating the opportunity to present viewers with a modern and progressive approach to a 70-year-old tradition, and we’re looking forward to the moment when this year’s deserving champions are crowned.”
In her own statement, CW’s head of unscripted programming, Heather Olander, added that the CW was “thrilled” to be working with “time-honored traditions” such as the Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageants. The broadcast’s executive producer, Renato Basile, also added that “Bringing together our unique A-list teams is going to make for an exhilarating production.”
The Miss USA pageant is scheduled to air on the CW on September 29th. Miss Teen USA will be available on the CW’s app and website on the same day.
