A Missouri woman is furious after spending nearly three months trying to resolve what she believes is a fraudulent credit inquiry linked to Security Finance in Farmington, Missouri. Despite filing a police report and repeatedly contacting the company, she says she has received little help removing the inquiry from her credit report. Her experience has since prompted viewers to share their own identity theft struggles and question how victims are expected to protect themselves.

The woman shared her experience on TikTok under the username @desiraekelly, where her video gained nearly one million views. She explained how her efforts to resolve the dispute allegedly went nowhere, striking a nerve with viewers who had faced fraudulent loans, stolen money, or unresponsive companies after discovering suspicious activity involving their personal information.

The problem began on July 30, when she received an email alerting her to a hard inquiry on her credit report. She hadn’t applied for a loan, so she contacted Security Finance to learn why the company had checked her credit. A manager identified as Anisha reportedly told her that someone had called using her Social Security number to apply for a loan over the phone.

Concerned about possible identity theft, the Missouri woman immediately froze her credit and filed a police report with the Farmington Police Department. An officer identified as Kyle Short reportedly told her the matter would be taken seriously and promised an update the following week.

However, weeks passed without the promised follow-up. She continued calling and emailing both the company and police, hoping to get the inquiry removed. She even mailed Security Finance a certified letter containing a copy of the police report, but the company apparently failed to collect it from the post office, and the letter was returned.

By the end of September, she contacted police again and learned that the case remained open, although she had not received any updates about progress. She said she was concerned the disputed inquiry could interfere with her financial goals.

The Nerd Stash has not independently verified the allegations. Her account did not include responses from Security Finance or the Farmington Police Department, and it remains unclear whether the inquiry has been removed or whether investigators have identified a suspect.

Missouri Woman’s Identity Theft Ordeal Has Viewers Fuming

Viewers had plenty to say, with many urging the Missouri woman to stop waiting for responses and take a more persistent approach. One commenter wrote, “Call. Every. Single. Day. Be annoying about it. Make it clear that the only way the calls will stop is if they do what they’re supposed to do.”

Others recommended filing complaints with the Better Business Bureau, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and the state attorney general. Several suggested seeking legal advice rather than relying solely on repeated calls.

Many commenters also shared personal experiences with identity theft. One person described discovering that someone had opened credit cards and taken out loans using her husband’s identity over a 12-year period. Another said a stolen card skimmer had cost her nearly $2,000, with little meaningful follow-up from police.

Some viewers questioned how someone could allegedly use another person’s Social Security number to apply for a loan while the victim struggled to correct the resulting credit record. Others cautioned that police departments may have limited resources for financial fraud cases, noting that a police report can help support disputes with creditors and credit bureaus.

For the Missouri woman, nearly three months of trying to resolve one disputed inquiry had become a frustrating test of patience. For many viewers, the bigger concern was how much work identity theft victims may have to do before they can finally resolve fraudulent activity.
