Missouri Woman Tells It Like It Is When Churchgoer Rejects LGBTQ+ Rights, ‘I Don’t Want to Live in a Gated Community, Thanks Though!’

It’s good to see people standing up for others

LGBTQ+ rights are constantly under fire from weirdos, Karens, conservatives, and especially Americans who follow the Christian faith. A woman working as a Missouri realtor named Michelle holds these values dearly to her heart and stands up in the face of injustice. That’s why when a churchgoing lady approached her in a store, Michelle wasn’t about to let her reject LGBTQ+ rights without a second thought. Instead, she decided to call the lady out on her backwards, outdated opinions.

TikTok user Michelle shared that she had the conversation with the lady at Walmart. While Michelle was shopping with her daughter, the churchgoing woman approached them and asked, “Can I share a word with you?” Michelle told her that was fine, but added, “As long as you’re from an LGBTQ affirming church.” The woman then replied, “I don’t know what that means,” which Michelle used as an opportunity to educate her.

First, Michelle asked “Do you believe that being gay is a sin?” to which the lady responded that she believed it was. Otherwise, according to the lady, they “won’t go through the gates of heaven.” If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, I’d be rich. “Well, maybe you should check out that the word homosexuality wasn’t actually in the Bible before 1946,” Michelle shot back. She tops it off with a big grin, the equivalent of a mic drop.

One commenter proclaimed: “I always say, ‘I don’t want to live in a gated community, thanks though!’” Another said their usual response is, “I don’t think an eternal lobotomy is something I want to work towards.” Personally, I just tell churchgoers I’ll burst into flames if I enter a place of worship.

Maybe to a few it seems like a nice gesture that a random stranger has your best interest in mind. I know I’m always mindful of how long I take when I’m in line at the groceries because I know people have places to be. At least in the U.S., Christians are particularly prone to using their religion to take shots at minorities and the LGBTQ+ community.

This is why outreach and conversation from people like Michelle is so, so important. As one person pointed out in the comments, “I’m a believer, but don’t come to me about it because I don’t go to church for a reason. It’s not the Lord I got an issue with.” Sometimes, it’s just the people themselves.
