Streaming services have brought back plenty of classic shows for movies, and the trend is going nowhere. Peacock will be the home to Mr. Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movie featuring Tony Shalhoub and other returning cast members, which has set a release date for December 8.
The movie will follow Monk (Tony Shalhoub) in a case that involves his journalist step-daughter Molly (Caitlin McGee), who is about to get married. In typical fashion, we can expect him to struggle with his obsessive-compulsive disorder and various phobias that cause obstacles and sometimes solutions for him to solve his cases.
All Gray: Tony Shalhoub and Other Monk Cast Members Return for a Movie on Peacock for a December Release Date
The Marvelous Mrs. Maissel star is joined by returning cast members Ted Levine (Leland Stottlemeyer), Traylor Howard (Natalie Teeger), Jason Gray-Stanford (Randy Disher), Melora Hardin (Trudy Monk), and Hector Elizondo (Dr. Neven Bell). New cast members include McGee (Mythic Quest) and James Purefoy (Pennyworth).
The film was directed by Randy Zisk and penned by Andy Breckman. Zisk produced the original series, including directing a handful of episodes, like the two-part finale. Breckman created it, making for a duo to deliver a story that will hopefully land for audiences as they maintain the heart of the comedy-drama.
Set in 2023, the Peacock Monk movie will give us the unconventional detective with a new lens. We will see how he lives after all these years. While not much change should be expected for how he acts, how the world has changed since the series ended will deliver plenty of material on what kind of situations he must navigate.
Peacock has quite the bar to reach for its Monk movie. The original series ran for eight seasons, earning it 18 Emmy nominations and eight wins. It was a staple for USA Network before streaming took over TV.
Every episode is now streaming on Peacock.
