Monster Hunter Wilds is now a worldwide phenomenon and to help you understand the hype better, it appears the franchise has unofficially crossed paths with one of the most ubiquitous (or annoying) language and translation programs ever. If you didn’t guess right, then I hope you faint thrice in your first hunt, because the crossover is between Monster Hunter and Duolingo, with a rather zany and dark twist involving a slaughtered Duolingo Owl.
The cheeky crossover was shared on Monster Hunter‘s official X/Twitter account. Earlier today, Duolingo’s official X/Twitter account posted a humorous ad saying that the Duolingo Owl has died while waiting for Duolingo users to advance their lessons and will promptly be replaced by Duolingo Max (or perhaps Dua Lipa).
A few hours later, Monster Hunter‘s X/Twitter account then claimed the kill and the responsibility for The Duolingo Owl’s death. For added “proof” there’s even a picture of a hunter in Monster Hunter World standing over Duo’s carcass, contemplating what kind of loot the talkative chicken will yield.
In all seriousness, the post is not an official collaboration or crossover, though who knows? I’d argue that Monster Hunter players are in dire need of a translation and language-learning app so they can communicate with players whose names appear as Japanese, Chinese, or Korean because those guys always carry their teammates the hardest during hunts. A bit of gratitude in their own language is always welcome, even though you’d have to employ the Duolingo Owl’s services.
Can We Slaughter the Duolingo Owl in Monster Hunter Wilds?
The joke Duolingo crossover has proven to be quite popular for Monster Hunter fans, with many players stating that it makes perfect sense given how the Palicos (cats) in Monster Hunter can speak perfect English. It’s also a bit of a welcome brand crossover, something Monster Hunter has been open to in the past, with collaborations from The Witcher and even Pizza Hut.
So never disregard the possibility of a Duolingo crossover with Monster Hunter Wilds, especially now that several new manners of death for the Duolingo Owl have presented themselves.
And for the record, Duolingo Owl fits in well in the Monster Hunter mythos, especially with numerous bird-type monsters that are notorious for being annoying or wacky enemies. For now, though, you’ll have to make do with other winged horrors in Monster Hunter Wilds; some of them are so tough that they can teach you to swear in another language, not unlike what Duolingo does.
