WB put on a good showing at the reveal event for Mortal Kombat 11 today (if you haven’t seen the full reveal, you can do so here). We haven’t seen anything about this game since its initial reveal at The Game Awards last month. Here is a rundown of everything they showed at the reveal event.
In this first look, they showed off 7 characters. the first characters they showed off were some of the original MK characters such as Scorpion, Sub Zero, Sonya Blade, and Raiden. They also revealed Scarlet and Baraka, who both haven’t been seen since MK 9. Finally, we got our first look at Geras, who is a new combatant to the series. Geras controls sand and also stops time. One of his fatalities shows him stopping time while in the middle of finishing another player off, and finally punches his brain out his body. Also, it has been rumored that Kabal, another fan favorite, will be Mortal Kombat 11 after a slight glimpse at what looks like him sprinting across the screen. Now, let’s get to some of the features.
First, they showed that Mortal Kombat 11 will have one meter on the bottom that gives you a boost in attack, defense, and triggers the use of X-rays. There are now two separate meters for attack and defense. Also, X-rays have been changed to Fatal Blows. Fatal Blows are triggered when your character health drops below a certain point and like in the other games, you press the trigger buttons then do a series of brutal attacks. Also, there are flawless blocks, which is a blocking system that lets you get the edge over your opponent if you can time it right.
They also gave us some information on the customization of our characters, including different outfits you can wear, abilities, gear, and AI behavior, which I believe are intros for your character. Also, they have announced that the person who will be voicing Sonya Blade is professional MMA fighter and current WWE superstar, Ronda Rousey. A short bit of story content was also unveiled, picking up right after Mortal Kombat X. It showed Dark Raiden torturing Shinnok, then he cut off Shinnok’s head and placed it on the table. At the end, Kronika showed up to talk to Shinnok. Kronika has apparently been behind the scenes of all the events that have occurred in the MK universe. Kronika will be the franchise’s first female final boss.
We will have more news on Mortal Kombat 11 as it gets closer to release. Mortal Kombat 11 releases April 23rd, and if you pre-order the game you will have access to Shao Khan as a bonus character. The multiplayer beta is coming out on March 28th.
