Mortal Kombat 2 is set to once again bring the champions of the Earthrealm on the stage, but this time, it seems like the main protagonist of the movie is not Cole Young. The new character is nowhere to be seen in Mortal Kombat 2 promo images, and fans are celebrating it.
In 3 decades, we didn’t have a character named Cole Young in Mortal Kombat as our champion. Things change, however, as Mortal Kombat 2021 introduced a brand new kombatant who took down… Goro on the street? Excuse me? That’s part of the reason why fans like me don’t like this new character. We call this “wasted potential” — Goro’s potential.
“No Cole Young in sight for the first promo images… they know that he’s not liked.” “Indeed. I liked Lewis Tan… It’s Cole Young the problem.” Or, they can just “kill him off at the beginning of this film” just like how Johnny Cage died in Mortal Kombat: Annihilation 1995. Other fans suggest that Lewis Tan could’ve been an amazing live-action iteration of Kenshi and I couldn’t agree more.
Moving on to the images, here are the 4 promo pictures shared by the Entertainment Weekly. The first image shows Karl Urban as Johnny Cage and he looks just like the one in MKX. Jax and his teeny-tiny hands are in the background standing beside Liu Kang as well.
The second image shows Kitana played by Adeline Rudolph with a custom that’s closest to the MKX version of the character. Two MKX references so far. Shao Kahn and Scorpion are also present in this movie, testing their might in the last two promo images of Mortal Kombat 2.
The good news doesn’t end here, however, as Johnny Cage serves as the new protagonist of the MK2 movie. No Cole Young and his nifty thick plot armor, and, unfortunately, no Liu Kang as the chosen one, for the filmmakers, at least. It remains to be seen how the story of this new chapter of Mortal Kombat unfolds, but if the makers have learned anything from the first movie, this one should be the blood-bath we were looking forward to seeing.
Is it over? Nah, Master Boon has more treats for us coming after watching these nice promo images for the Mortal Kombat 2 movie. All the skins you see in these four images are coming to the Mortal Kombat 1 game as part of a future update. You didn’t see that koming!
