Things are about to go terribly wrong in a seemingly peaceful suburb. Studio Canal has released the trailer for Mother’s Instinct, which is led by Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain (seen below). The thriller is the directorial debut of French cinematographer Benoit Delhomme. It is based on a book of the same name by Barbara Abel with a screenplay from Sarah Conradt.
The film follows two women who are close friends, but after a tragic accident, they start to become enemies. Celine (Hathaway) loses her son from a fall, which starts trouble between the two families. Signs from Celine tells her best friend, Alice (Chastain), that she blames Alice for the accident. But is it actually all in Alice’s head that her neighbor blames her for the death of her son? The thriller also stars Josh Charles, Anders Danielsen Lie, Baylen D. Bielitz, and Eamon Patrick O’Connell.
Mother’s Instinct Trailer Is a Different Type of Thriller With Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain
It is not the first time that Abel’s book has been turned into a film. In 2018, there was the Belgian adaptation titled Duelles. The American remake brings up the star power, but we will have to wait to see what other changes are made.
The two leads are producing the film together. Neon will handle distributing it in the U.S., while Studio Canal will handle the U.K.
The intensity of a role can be a daunting one, which can be seen in the Mother’s Instinct trailer. Anne Hathaway told Vogue Hong Kong that this was her “hardest role ever.” For her, “it touched my worst fear, and I almost backed out of the film because I didn’t know if I could go there as an actress.” Meanwhile, her co-star told IndieWire that the two of them “had a lot of fun.”
No release date has been set, but with the trailer of Mother’s Instinct, it shouldn’t be too long of a wait. It is slated to come out sometime in 2024.
