Muse Dash, the anime rhythm side scroller, is known for its bright, colorful visuals and lively, over-the-top gameplay. While it showcases a plethora of exciting anime-esque songs and EDM tracks, the highlight of Muse Dash is its cast of charming playable girls, Muses. One Muse, in particular, has garnered quite the popularity over the past few months—to the point where those who don’t even play the game can recognize her. The anime girl in question is Marija the Violinist, or more specifically her unlockable variant, “The Girl in Black.”

Marija’s internet popularity originated from a viral Vietnamese song used commonly in TikTok called 2 Phut Hon. Amassing over 130 million views, the YouTube MV features The Girl in Black Marija, who sits on top of a black luxury car while it bounces rhythmically up and down. Zero Two from Darling In The Franxx also makes a notable appearance with her signature dance move from the viral (and somewhat controversial) song “ME!ME!ME!” by TeddyLoid.

While Zero Two’s dance gained more fame in the TikTok community, Marija’s prevalence has spread throughout the anime communities on PC. On YouTube, you’ll find The Girl in Black in prominent remixes and comical meme videos. On the other hand, owners of Steam’s Wallpaper Engine will find Marija to be a popular downloaded choice among other Muse Dash’s animations.

As with any other viral trend, relevance for The Girl in Black and Zero Two’s dance has both toned down quite a lot. However, Muse Dash has earned some recent recognition with Vtuber members from Hololive promoting the game through their videos and streams. Additionally, one Hololive member named Fubuki collaborated with PeroPeroGames, featuring her song “Say! Funfare” in one of the in-game music packs.

Although a niche rhythm game with its fashionable art design and personality-filled gameplay, Muse Dash has reached millions of online users thanks to its cute and captivating anime characters. Muse Dash is available on PC, Android, iOS, and Switch.
