Almost two months after we got an Act IV story mission in MWZ, we now have another task to accomplish in MW3 Zombies. There aren’t any tiers and too many objectives involved, but there’s one single-story mission called the Countermeasures in MW3 MWZ Zombies Season 2 Reloaded. This mission rewards you with a cutscene, but you’ve got to enter a new Dark Aether rift in MWZ to gain it.
All Objectives of Countermeasures MW3 Zombies Mission
- Enter the new Dark Aether rift.
- Find and rescue Fletcher and his soldiers.
- Escort the ACV.
- Interact with the terminal.
- Clear the stronghold.
- Defeat the boss.
The Countermeasures Act IV mission starts with you entering the new Dark Aether rift. This rift is at the top side of the Tier-3 zone marked on your tac map. Now remember, this Dark Aether rift’s zombies are cakes; you won’t need a level 3 pack-a-punched weapon to kill them. However, you do need a level 2 gun, your fists to run away, and certain perks like Juggernog, Speed Cola, and Stamin-Up.
Once you’re ready, enter the rift and begin the MW3 Zombies Countermeasures mission. Ravenov is waiting inside. There are also the Terminus Outcomes enemies in this dimension, but they’re on your side here in the Dark Aether.
There are a bunch of Terminus soldiers in a marked building that need your help. Once you bring them out of there, you’ll then have to escort the ACV vehicle. Don’t worry about Ravenov and the other soldiers on this mission; they’re minding their own business here. So if you get knocked, as you see down here, no help is coming.
You may follow and escort the ACV until it gets disrupted by a nearby terminal. Find it to the ACV’s right, and interact with it. You can now proceed with the Countermeasures MW3 Zombies/MWZ mission by reaching and clearing a stronghold.
This is like any other infected stronghold you find in MWZ, which you can purge by shooting down the cysts inside. Once you’re done, Fletcher comes out, and you can continue the journey until you reach the final destination. In here, you’d have to fight the zombies like you do in an Outlast contract and then fight an overpowered Mangler boss fight.
After you kill the boss, you’ll have to exit the Dark Aether through the portal, and the Countermeasures story MW3 Zombies mission will complete. However, there’s a cutscene to watch, including important info on the Call of Duty Zombies storyline.
Countermeasures MWZ Ending Cutscene Explained
The mission ends with Ava Jansen rushing to Ravenov, seeking answers about Requiem and what happened to them. First things first, she asks that Ravenov shouldn’t be in this shape after more than 30 years! Well, he might have good genes, but that’s an effect of the Dark Aether.
So Ravenov has entered the Dark Aether to save Samantha Maxis; we’re not entirely sure, but that’s the best that can be assumed. And the Requiem team has failed to help Maxis, leaving the Dark Aether, hoping that it wouldn’t cause an outbreak ever again.
But the most important thing revealed during the Countermeasures mission’s ending cutscene is that Ravenov somehow exposed Ava Jansen’s parents. After she leaves the room, Ravenov says, “Your parents were,” and then he corrects it to, “Are proud of you.” Now, this is while he’s looking at the picture of former Requiem members, and all of them are titled as deceased except for Ravenov.
So, to get your ducks in a row, Ravenov is probably Dr Jansen’s secret father, with Dr Gray from Black Ops Cold War Zombies being her mother. We’d also hear more about the old days of Ravenov once we get to the final seasons of the game, prior to Call of Duty: Black Ops 2024‘s release.
