The video draws attention to the high school’s batch of marinara sauces, one of which appears to have been contaminated or riddled with maggots. It’s not clear how deep the alleged infestation goes, but the clip has no doubt sparked outrage, especially since a kid in a hurry might unwittingly consume the rather unconventional source of protein in their school lunch.
The incident occurred at an unspecified high school in Utah, as mentioned in the clip uploaded by a TikTok user named garlicella. According to the uploader, his brother sent him the video, which took place in their high school cafeteria. In the clip, you can see one packet of marinara sauce, which the TikTok user’s brother opened to reveal several crawling maggots inside, marinating in the marinara sauce.
The TikTok user’s brother then pointed to where he supposedly obtained the particular marinara sauce, where a pile of them can be seen on the table. It’s not clear whether the other packets were also compromised or infested with maggots, as the video doesn’t exactly show a fresh and new opening of any of the packets in the cafeteria pile.
The video also begins with the maggot-infested marinara sauce already opened, so there is also a chance that the whole clip was just a high schooler’s prank. Nevertheless, it has drawn the attention of numerous concerned social media users who have urged the TikTok uploader to report the cafeteria to the local health department.

Meanwhile, people on the internet are unanimously disgusted by the thought of compromised lunch food. It’s not the first time a school’s lunch food has been reported as potentially harmful or spoiled, but many people have assumed that something as supposedly safe as sealed food could be tainted. “Report it to the local health department! They take food safety very seriously especially with kids in school,” suggests one TikTok commenter, while another joked, “The RFK Special.”
Others argued with the comment, stating, “if they cared then this shouldnt be happening in the first place.” Another commenter pondered on how exactly a fly would be able to lay eggs in a sealed sauce packet, to which they got a reply, “Containers like this are super flexible, so if they’re not stored carefully and properly there’s a very good chance the seal wasn’t 100% closed. They could’ve been slightly crushed.”
In any case, other people were prompted to share photos and anecdotes of their similar experiences with school lunch food. Some posted a sandwich with a colony of mold for its filling while someone’s mother complained, “My kids showed me pictures of expired milk by two years, mold on bread and milk being in the form of jello it’s disgusting what our kids are being served and what we parents pay for.”
