Two Christian parents in Florida faced criticism online after sharing a video of their young daughter rebuking neighborhood Halloween decorations in the name of Jesus.

The parents shared a video of themselves walking down a street with their children, including their daughter, seated in a stroller. As they passed homes decorated for Halloween, the little girl began shouting toward the houses displaying the decorations.

“POV: Your toddler saw scary Halloween decor in your neighborhood,” the parents wrote over the video. At the beginning of the clip, they were laughing at their daughter’s reaction to the decorations. The little girl looked at the displays and yelled, “I rebuke those out of the name of Jesus and God.”

The parents continued filming as their daughter pointed toward a house and shouted, “I rebuke you of the name of Jesus.” She then raised her voice again, declaring, “I rebuke skeletons out of the name of Jesus.” The girl also called the decorations “disgusting” and “yucky” before demanding, “Throw it in the trash can, now.”

As their daughter continued shouting at decorations outside different homes, her parents laughed at her reaction. Her father also encouraged her, saying, “Yes, Lyla. Yes.” The little girl then continued yelling, declaring, “I rebuke in the name of Jesus pumpkins. I’ll throw you in the trash pumpkins.”

In the caption, the parents explained why their daughter reacted this way to the Halloween displays. “Whenever she sees something scary we taught her to rebuke it in the name of Jesus. So yesterday during our walk she started screaming this out LOUD out of nowhere! Turns out the Halloween decorations were scaring her but she knows Jesus defeated all darkness. I love how bold and brave she is! So proud of my baby girl,” they wrote.

The parents faced online criticism, with some viewers questioning their decision to teach their daughter to rebuke things that frighten her in the name of Jesus. Others took issue with the parents laughing and encouraging her as she shouted at Halloween decorations outside other people’s homes.

Viewers Slam Florida Parents Over Daughter’s Behavior

Many viewers online criticized the Florida parents over their daughter’s reaction to the Halloween decorations. They argued that children should be taught to respect other people’s beliefs. “This is so weird,” one person wrote. Another commented, “maybe teach your child that not everyone follows the same believe and be respectful to others, thy isnt loving the neighbors.”

The parents continued to face criticism. Some viewers worried about how their daughter’s upbringing could affect her as she grows older. “this poor girl is going to have to unlearn all of this growing up I feel so bad,” one person wrote. Another asked, “Why are we teaching her to publicly hate on others traditions and beliefs?.”

The reactions reflected a broader disagreement over how parents introduce religious beliefs to young children and how those beliefs shape their views of traditions their families do not observe. Critics argued that children can follow their family’s faith while still respecting how other families choose to celebrate Halloween.
