Recently we here at The Nerd Stash reported on the release of a new story trailer for Uncharted 4: A Thiefโs End.ย The trailer was eventually taken down and re-uploaded with a very minor change to it.ย During the trailer (the modified version can be found below) at approximately 1:36 the camera zooms in on a piece of framed artwork.ย Aymar Azaรฏzia, head of content for the Assassin’s Creed franchise at Ubisoft Montreal, realized that this was concept art from Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, which he pointed out in a series of impassioned tweets.

A representative speaking on behalf of Naughty Dog gave the following statement in regards to the mishap in the Uncharted trailer:ย “In our eagerness to get the story trailer out we made a regrettable mistake and didn’t thoroughly vet the artwork used for an in-game painting. We’ve already updated the trailer, we hold all artistry in high regard and take full responsibility for having allowed this to happen.ย We want to sincerely apologize to everyone at Ubisoft, the Assassin’s Creed team, the original artist, and our fans.”
If you do a Google search that particular image is one of the first to be pulled up.ย Even the people at Naughty Dog and Sony encounter the same basic problems as the rest of us, as far as accidental plagiarism goes, although it is curious and worth noting that the version which was present in the Uncharted 4 trailer had the image of the pirate removed from it.
