Prince Andrew‘s bid to keep the Royal Lodge at all costs may be for the noble cause of leaving the massive inheritance to daughters Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice. The Duke of York’s row with his brother King Charles over the Royal Lodge has stirred public attention in recent times as the drama keeps unfolding. Andrew has resided in the palatial 30-room abode in Windsor Great Park since 2003. However, the British monarch, his brother has urged him to relocate to a smaller, more manageable property, which he deemed fair given he was no longer a working royal. However, Prince Andrew remains unwilling to budge, forcing his brother’s hands.
Amid the row over the Royal Lodge, property-buying agent Robin Edwards is sharing his opinion on why Prince Andrew remained reluctant to vacate despite King Charles’ nudge. According to him, the Royal Lodge was indeed “a stunning” property no one, not even Eugenie and Beatrice would be willing to pass off in any circumstance. He told GB News,
“Royal Lodge is a stunning property. If Beatrice and/or Eugenie had the chance to live there I’m sure they would jump at the chance.”
Acquiring Royal Lodge as Inheritance Could Put Beatrice and Eugenie at Odds With the Public
Going further, the property expert pointed out that the public generally liked Beatrice and Eugenie, which made them preferable candidates for the royal lodge should it fall on them as inheritance. However, acquiring the property in such a manner, after their dad’s royal row with King Charles, would most likely stir negative publicity their way. Yet, not even that would hold them back from laying claim to the property. Robert divulged,
“Although there may be some negative press about either of them living at the Royal Lodge in the future, I don’t think it would be enough to put either of them off living there.”
Reports have claimed that Prince Andrew hoped to someday leave the royal lodge to his daughters Eugenie and Beatrice as some form of inheritance. While holding on to this hope might be keeping the Prince determined to remain rooted at the Royal Lodge, concerns have been raised over its deplorable state desperately in need of repairs. King Charles encouraged him to downsize to a property like the Frogmore Cottage which requires a lower cost of maintenance.
To force his hands, the monarch reportedly scrapped Prince Andrew’s £1million annual allowance. However, the Duke of York bit back at his brother by shockingly coming up with enough funds from an unknown source to keep facilitating his stay at the thirty-room residence.
Amid the bitter Royal Lodge drama, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie have maintained their silence, seemingly refraining from taking sides. The sisters notably have their own respective apartments in the UK, where they reside with their husbands during visits. Princess Eugenie currently resides in a lavish property in Portugal alongside her husband Jack Brooksbank. However, they also have a claim to the Ivy Cottage, where they reside on their UK visits. Meanwhile, Princess Eugenie resides with her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, and daughter Sienna in The Cotswolds, but has an apartment reserved in St James’ Palace for their occasional London trips.
