A number of movies and shows have received spatial audio on Netflix. The streamer has enhanced various of its original content like Stranger Things, The Witcher, the Fear Street trilogy, The Adam Project, and Castlevania. Future originals will receive this support, like the upcoming Resident Evil series.
Netflix adding spatial audio, known as 3D audio, makes for a more immersive experience. It wraps the viewer in the sound, giving more precision to effects and sounds to specific locations. It is through stereo setup but works with a TV’s regular system, a soundbar, or headphones.
To deliver spatial audio, Netflix partnered with audio company Sennheiser. The company has the credibility to team up with the streamer as it has made a name for itself in the world of soundbars and headphones for TV viewing and gaming.
Netflix Adds Spatial Audio to Major Shows and Films
To find a show or movie with spatial audio on Netflix, go to the search bar and type in “spatial audio” to see the full list of updated content. In a test conducted by The Nerd Stash, we found the complete list to contain other significant hits for the platform, like Red Notice, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Archive 81, and more. The list is small with 27 titles but will surely grow over time, as the company said it is “rolling out” the upgrade today.
3D audio is nothing new, especially for the video game industry. Some games like Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice took full advantage of its use of audio, with its protagonist having psychosis, leaving the player to hear voices all around them. It has become a focus for this console generation. It was also a major selling point for the PlayStation 5, especially when it comes to its first-party games like Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Returnal, and more.
