Netflix is not the first place anyone expects to see big-name video games, but that might be changing – soon. A new announcement on Netflix’s official social media accounts has shared that the streaming service will be bringing three Grand Theft Auto games to mobile via Netflix Games. Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City, and San Andreas will all be available through the App Store, Google Play Store, or the Netflix app starting December 14th. As an added bonus, all three games will be available in their Definitive Editions, though only for Netflix subscribers.

The news that Netflix has acquired the rights to three GTA games comes months after rumors began that Netflix had been sizing up the franchise for its Netflix Games platform. While Netflix’s games service is understandably overshadowed by its main streaming service, the company has likely grabbed Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy in an effort to add one of Rockstar‘s biggest series to their collection of mobile games. While the trilogy’s Definitive Edition didn’t make the best first impression after its release earlier this year, bug fixes and updates have smoothed over many of the initial problems with the games.

As part of Netflix Games, GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas will be available through the Netflix App, as well as through the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. However, while the games will be available through all three platforms, Netflix has warned customers that the games will only be available to Netflix subscribers. San Andreas is the only game of the trilogy that’s currently available on mobile, but since it’s not part of Netflix’s package, it’s not the Definitive Edition of the game. GTA+ subscribers are in luck, though, as Rockstar added the Definitive Edition trilogy as a free perk for its subscription service earlier this year.

Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas will be available on mobile platforms starting December 14th, 2023.
