Earlier today, Netflix announced that they are adapting the popular horror franchise, The Grudge, into a television show for the very first time. Titled Ju-On: Origins, this series will take fans back to the story that started it all, and it is set to release this summer on the streaming service.

According to Netflix, the synopsis is as follows:

The legendary Japanese horror franchise that has become a smash hit worldwide gets its first drama adaptation. The J-Horror classic franchise Ju-On was actually based on real events that occurred over four decades – and the truth is even more terrifying. Can the people haunted by this house escape from its curse? And what kind of grim incident occurred in this cursed house in the past?

Netflix released the trailer for The Grudge on their social media earlier today, and it can be seen below! The trailer introduces fans to the haunted oddities occurring in the house, complete with terrifying clicking noises and horrifying babies.

The Grudge adaptation stars Yoshiyoshi Arakawa, Yuina Kuroshima, and Ririka. As of this writing, directors and writers have yet to be announced.

The popular horror franchise, Ju-On, got its beginning in 1998 when two short films released in Japan. In 2004, the series horrified western audiences with The Grudge. From there, the series grew in popularity, and it now has over 13 films, both Japanese and American, within the franchise.

Ju-On: Origins is set to release in its entirety on Netflix beginning on July 3rd, 2020.
