According to recent news, after months of rumors, it has now been confirmed that the Punisher will be getting his own Netflix series. The project has officially gotten the green light and will center around the revenge driven Frank Castle aka The Punisher. Jon Bernthal will star in the series, reprising the role he took as the character in season two of Daredevil. This will be the sixth collaboration so far between Netflix and Marvel Television.

Steve Lightfoot who has worked on several high- profile television shows such as Hannibal, will serve as the showrunner for the series. It is not currently clear yet where in the timeline the new series around the revenge driven vigilante will fall. Whether we may see a direct continuation of the character following the ending of season two of Daredevil or if some of the series may serve as a prequel to the character during his time in the military.
No air date for the series has been slated yet but it would most likely be after the Iron Fist series is completed. There is also no word yet if the Punisher will be added to The Defenders which will be featuring a team up of Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, Luke Cage and Daredevil. Luke Cage will be getting his first series a little later in 2016 after appearing in the first season of Jessica Jones. Iron Fist is currently slated to follow Luke Cage to set up for The Defenders. Given the praise of Jon Bernthal’s portrayal of the Punisher by both fans and critics alike, it’ll be interesting to see if this new series changes the lineup plans at all.
