Shadow And Bone, the Netflix show that was released in April 2021, has topped the Neilsen Streaming Chart with over 1.2 billion viewing minutes. Shadow And Bone is based on the best-selling Grishaverse novels by the young adult author, Leigh Bardugo, and was adapted by Netflix this April. The show has since been garnering a huge fan base from viewers all over the world.
Combining narratives and storylines from two different sets of Leigh Bardugo‘s books, the series has amazed the fans with its representation of characters and how well they interact with each other in the same universe. The series follows Alina Starkov, a Cartographer, who is revealed to be the much-awaited ‘Sun Summoner’.
Her life seems to change completely, with being swept away to a Palace by the General of the Grisha Army; an Army filled with people who can control different elements like fire, air, or even one’s heartbeat. The book as well as the show take inspiration from the 19th Century Russian culture and folklore and can be seen in the character names as well as the fashion of the show.
Shadow And Bone stars Jessie Mei Li as Alina Starkov and Ben Barnes as General Kirigan along with Archie Renaux, Freddy Carter, Kit Young, and Amita Suman as part of an ensemble cast.
Recent Neilsen ratings show that Shadow And Bone has topped the streaming charts with over 1.2 billion viewing minutes, beating the new season of The Handmaid’s Tale on Hulu. This comes after Bridgerton, another Netflix show, becoming the most viewed show watched on the streaming platform. Although there haven’t been any announcements for Shadow And Bone being renewed for season 2, with the viewership and support it has gathered, it’s safe to say that the fans have a lot to look forward to.
