Transporting loot or constantly going to your base and storing the loot you collected while farming, was super annoying in Rust. Especially for small groups playing Solo or Duo, getting a large amount of loot often resulted in not being able to hold it all and having it go to waste. However, this will change because a Backpack Update is coming to Rust. That’s right, you will now be able to craft a Backpack, and your character will have much more loot storage capacity. Before this new Rust Update, we could only store items in a Car with a Storage Module or a Horse with a Saddle Bag, but now players will be able to carry an extra bag.
When Is Backpack Update Coming to Rust
The Backpack Update will be officially released in Rust on February 1st. But right now, a Rust – Staging Branch is open for players to try and give feedback. You can try the new Backpacks by logging into the Staging Branch.
There are two types of Backpacks being added to the game, a Small Backpack in blue and a Large Backpack in green. The Small Backpack is the default blueprint and can be crafted for a x5 Sewing Kit, and x50 Cloth. The Large Backpack cannot be crafted and can only be obtained from loot containers such as Locked Crate, Elite Tier Crate, and Military Crate.
The Small Backpack has exactly 12 extra storage slots. The Large Backpack has 30 slots. You can place the Backpacks in the same slot where you put the Parachute. According to Alistair McFarlane on the X platform, Backpacks will not give players a movement speed nerf, but they will have some disadvantages.
This is all we know about the Rust Backpack Update for now. Of course, it’s important to remember that these are still in the testing stage, and there may be some minor changes when the update is fully rolled out on February 1st.
