Baldur’s Gate 3 was already a Game of the Year contender and one of the most celebrated titles of 2023, and it just got better. The release of Patch 5 brings a ton of new content to the game, and in true Larian Studios fashion, there’s far more than just bug fixes to show off. Not only will the update deliver excellent new outfits so that Tav and their companions can adventure in style, but it also includes ambitious additions including brand new epilogues. Arguably best of all, there’s a new mode coming to the game that is sure to give even the most experienced Dungeons and Dragons players a daunting challenge. Here’s everything you need to know about Patch 5 for Baldur’s Gate 3.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 5 Changes
Patch 5 does more than just fix Astarion’s kisses. Is your party’s wardrobe a bit barebones? Patch 5 brings new outfits to Origin characters in Baldur’s Gate 3, including Orin’s outfit which now drops as loot. Did you feel like the story ended too abruptly? So did Larian. That’s why the developer is introducing brand new playable epilogues to the game, taking place six months after the conclusion of the main story. According to the developers, these epilogues feature “some of the most complex writing in the game thus far,” promising to be the ultimate culmination of the game’s reactivity to your choices. Considering how many branches to the story there are, that’s an incredible addition.
If new clothes, new music, and new cinematics aren’t enough for you, Patch 5 also introduces Honour Mode to Baldur’s Gate 3. It’s a brutal perma-death mode that limits you to a single save file. You’ll earn a Golden D20 if you complete it, but that won’t be easy. It’s even tougher than Tactician Mode, increasing the difficulty of boss fights and offering the ultimate challenge thanks to the new Legendary Action system.
If that all sounds a bit much, you can try out the new Custom Mode instead. This mode lets you tweak and customize everything from enemy aggression and character power to the camp cost multiplier. If you were looking for another excuse to return to BG3, this is it.
