Most people have seen Terminator right? We all know how the robot apocalypse is inevitable? Whether it is DARPA, the same organization that funded the development of Metal Gear REX, funding the creation of bipedal self-righting automatons in the real world or Boston Dynamics, showing off the fact that their quadruped machines will be able to replace Santa’s reindeer with ease, it is an interesting and terrifying time to be alive. So enters Boston Dynamic’s newest four-legged design SpotMini.
SpotMini is modeled after Boston Dynamic’s famous Spot robot and is a much smaller version of it. SpotMini weighs a mere 65 pounds and is completely electric and doesn’t include any hydraulics which makes it one of the quietest robots that they have ever built. It comes packed with a wide array of cameras, sensors, and gyros, as well as an impressive manipulator arm which is perched atop the robot. SpotMini is capable of some autonomous function but requires a human pilot for higher level tasks.

In this video, you can watch Boston Dynamic’s newest machine do everything from the dishes to slipping on a pile of banana peels and then righting itself, all of which is both fascinating and terrifying to behold.
