Haggling for better prices with sellers can be an absolute headache, especially when it comes to used cars. Fortunately, a New Jersey driver was able to save almost $10k for an offer on an Acura but lost an extra $400 deal because of his wife. The bargaining was being done with TikTok influencer George Saliba, a so-called “Vehicle Acquisition Pro” and car dealer. He initially was selling an Acura RDX for $39,999, but the buyer wanted to lower $28,500 “out the door.”
$28,500, including taxes and additional fees, was not the final price Saliba was going to take for the car. In what the TikToker calls a “shockingly heated Acura RDX negotiation,” the buyer and dealer go back and forth, trying to find a price they both would agree on. The New Jersey driver pleads for a “good returning customer price,” indicating that he’s purchased vehicles from the dealership before. “I’ll sell you the car for $29,500; forget the ‘out-the-door’ stuff,” Saliba eventually offers to the customer.
After arguing over the importance of “tax and doc,” as the customer is the one paying the extra fees, the driver says he’ll settle for $31,000. “Do me $31k, and we’re shaking on camera,” he says. Saliba goes back with “$31,500,” causing the buyer to think for a second. Before he can respond, his wife goes, “$31,500 is good,” and the car influencer quickly uses her comment as leverage to finalize the price at $31,400. Because of his wife’s seemingly insignificant remark, the New Jersey driver lost $400.
“As soon as wife said it was a good price bro was COOKED,” reads a top comment, with thousands liking in agreement. “Leave wife at home,” remarks another. “Naw, I would walk out. The wife needs to keep her mouth shut; she messed up the whole deal,” criticizes a third. I bet “the wife got cussed out in the car,” chimes in a fourth. Needless to say, plenty of commenters were both amused and annoyed that the New Jersey driver lost almost half a thousand dollars because his wife stated her opinion.
Unfortunately, the driver didn’t stand by his wife, even though he had to cave into the final offer. “That’s because she is loose with money!” he yelled at Saliba, causing others nearby to laugh. The TikTok post’s comments have no shortage of rather misogynistic quotes, either. “They [wives] gotta be heard at the worst times, don’t they?” grumbles one. “Fr who gave them opinions all of a sudden?” responds another. “Yeah, she an imbecile,” insults a third. Whatever the case, at least the buyer was able to save almost 10k from the initial offer.
