New Jersey Woman Forced Out of Uber At 3 AM After Greedy Driver Demands She Pay Him for Tolls: ‘I Would Have Reported Him ASAP’

He shouldn’t have done that

Many people don’t have great experiences with Uber, so it’s not uncommon to see riders speaking out about bad trips. That was the case for a New Jersey woman who decided to share her experience after a ride on Christmas morning. She was traveling from New Jersey to LaGuardia Airport in New York, expecting a routine trip, but it quickly turned stressful.

Instead of leaving her alone, the driver allegedly demanded that she pay extra money for tolls. That’s when the woman began filming the interaction. In the video, the shock on her face is clear as she reacts to the driver’s request. She also made a point to remind him that she had already paid $80 through the Uber app.

Never experienced anything like this. It was 3 AM and I had a flight to catch. #uber #nyc #uberdriver #uberdriverstories

The driver then insisted that the New Jersey woman give him extra money to cover the tolls. Clearly shocked, she asked, “You want me to pay out of pocket?” Instead of reconsidering, he doubled down and replied, “Yeah, of course.” Realizing he was serious, the woman told him she would get out of the car and request another Uber to finish her trip. As she began exiting the vehicle, she said, “This is ridiculous,” a reaction many would agree was justified. The driver continued talking, claiming he was asking for the money because he would have to pay to drive back, but that wasn’t her responsibility. As a result, the woman was forced to get out of the car at 3 a.m. Thankfully, she recorded the incident and later submitted a complaint to Uber, demanding a refund.

People Reacting to the New Jersey Woman’s Video

After seeing the New Jersey woman’s video, many people were furious over how she was treated. Viewers quickly agreed that the driver’s behavior was completely unacceptable, and one person wrote, “And I would have reported him ASAP‼! Bc he gets reimbursed for the tolls.” This made the woman reply, “DID! I was on the phone with uber before he got the chance to pull off.” Another person said, “When you cross bridges, the toll is charged to the customer in the app. What is he talking about. Now if he has to pay on the reverse, no he wont get paid unless he has a ride over the tolls. Its the cost of doing business though.” They have got a point.

Someone else tried to be reasonable about the situation, as they told the New Jersey woman, “He doesn’t get reimbursed for the tolls back to NJ. Once the ride is done. I think that’s what he is asking for. I often uber from Jersey to NYC for work early in the morning (2-4am) and I always tip enough to cover the tolls back. (It’s a work account so not my money LOL). But the reason for this is because NJ drivers can’t pick up new rides in NYC unless they have a taxi license. So the gas and tolls going back to NJ where they can pick up another ride are fully on them. Not saying it’s right. It’s the risk they taking driving ride share in the tri state area. But it’s an explanation.” It is still not her fault.
